Before July 20, 1920, if someone wanted to use a steam iron, they had to heat an iron on the stove and squirt water on the clothes as they ironed. After July 20, 1920, people could use a fabulous invention called an 'electric steam iron', which provided it's own heat and water via the miracle of electricity.
